Jesus (pbuh) Abused by Spiteful Israelis; Hezbollah Condemns | Hussein Assi | Readers Number : 504
| 19/02/2009 It's the same Israeli "malice" that expresses itself, once again, in its worst forms… It's the same Israeli "spite" that has proved itself since the "creation" of the so-called Zionist entity that reveals itself once again… It's true that the world is already used to the Israeli degradation for Arabs and Muslims… But who said that other religions are not dealt with in the same way by the Zionists and Israelis?? Christianity, for instance, seems to have reached the same destiny with an administration that undermines all values and beliefs, humiliates all religions and convictions… Indeed, suddenly and without any prior notice, Channel 10 of Israeli Television decided to devote a complete episode for the Christianity. However, it found that the most appropriate program for such a topic was… its "comical" and "sarcastic" program, called "Tonight with Liur." Thus, and just as expected, the Israeli host decided to show his "ironical" competences, undermining the whole religion and harming Jesus Christ (Prophet Issa pbuh) and his holy mother Mary (pbuh). The whole scene was, of course, accompanied by the audience's "horselaughs" as if they were watching a circus or a comical series. So, the Israeli spite against the whole humanity continues, uncovering more "vicious surprises" day after day. Therefore, the international community, the Christian and Muslim references in the whole world are called upon to exert pressures on the Zionist entity to halt its aggression and assaults against dignities, at the top of which are God's prophets and messengers. HEZBOLLAH CONDEMNS ISRAELI CRIME In response, Hezbollah issued Thursday a statement in which it expressed deep grief over the abuse committed by the disgraceful Zionist enemy on Channel Ten against one of the great Prophets of God, Jesus Christ, the son of Mary, peace be upon them (PBUT), and his pure holy mother, considered sacred in the Bible and the holy Qura'an, by Muslims, Christians and all believers in God's messages in the world. Hezbollah condemned this crime and insult against the holiest people that God has sent, out of his love, compassion and blessings for humanity. "Such conduct is not surprising from an enemy whose history is filled with the murder of prophets, offenses to holy sites, who lacks recognition of others, distorts and occupies holy places for both Muslims and Christians, in addition to mosques and churches, their respective places of worship," Hezbollah's statement added. The statement concluded: "Hezbollah puts this heinous offense in the hands of all defenders of human rights and freedom of belief. Hezbollah also appeals to all concerned parties of international and human rights organizations, civil and religious bodies to initiate a unified action that condemns this crime and obliges the enemy to stop its mockery of religious symbols, beliefs and sanctities."

Iraqi Journalist Zaidi Defiant as Trial Adjourned
| 19/02/2009 The Iraqi journalist who threw his shoes at George W. Bush defiantly defended his actions in court on Thursday, saying he had been overwhelmed when confronted by the ex-US president's "icy smile." Muntazer al-Zaidi won global fame when his footwear whizzed past Bush's head on December 14 as the then president made a farewell visit to Iraq before leaving the White House. His lawyers used the trial's opening arguments to assert that the remarkable protest was lawful, but the judge brought proceedings to a halt 90 minutes later, saying more information was needed about Bush's trip. The 30-year-old journalist told the court he had been outraged and was unable to control his emotions when Bush, who ordered the invasion of Iraq in March 2003, started speaking. "I saw only Bush and it was like something black in my eyes," he said from the dock, an Iraqi flag draped across his shoulders. "So I took the first shoe and threw it but it did not hit him. Then spontaneously I took the second shoe but it did not hit him either. I was not trying to kill the commander of the occupation forces of Iraq." Zaidi gave a detailed account of the news conference, which was being beamed live worldwide, where Bush was speaking alongside Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki. "I came to the press conference and the US security guards asked the Iraqi journalists to go outside and they started to check us and they checked one journalist in a humiliating manner while we were on Iraqi soil," he said. "After Bush started speaking about 'victory and achievement in Iraq' with an icy smile... I did what I did." Zaidi, who works for the private Al-Baghdadia television channel, was abducted by insurgents during the sectarian strife that engulfed Iraq after the invasion, and made plain his feelings about the occupation. "We as Arabs are proud of our sense of hospitality, but Bush and his soldiers have been here for six years," he said. "I had the feeling that the blood of innocent people was dropping on my feet during the time that he was smiling and coming to say bye-bye to Iraq with a dinner." After his testimony, Zaidi argued that Bush's trip to Iraq had not been an official visit. One of the three trial judges, Abdulamir Hassan al-Rubai, then said that the trial would be adjourned until March 12. "We have adjourned the trial so that we can contact the prime minister's office to find out if the visit of the ex-American president Bush was an official visit or not," he said. The reporter faces up to 15 years in prison if found guilty of assaulting a foreign leader, the charge leveled against him by prosecutors for the dramatic gesture that was hailed across the Arab world. Zaidi was stony-faced throughout the hearing, dressed in a khaki colored jacket and a black shirt. There was tight security, with cars being checked and all electronic equipment taken from people entering the hearing. Zaidi was asked to state his name, occupation and address and his lawyer then said the accused had "social, political and psychological reasons" for doing what he did. About 30 members of the journalist's family were in court. "It is a farce," one brother, Uday Zaidi, angrily said afterwards. The case was heard at the Central Criminal Court, which is responsible for terrorism cases and situated near the Green Zone in Baghdad, home to the Iraqi government and some Western embassies.

Google Earth exposes US base in Pakistan Thu, 19 Feb 2009 17:21:08 GMT | The Shamsi airbase with three drones visible. | A satellite image captured by Google Earth reveals that the United States secretly operates drones from a military base inside Pakistan. A Google Earth image revealed on Thursday that US forces fly unmanned drones from the Shamsi airbase in the restive southwestern province of Baluchistan. The image obtained by the The News shows three drones outside a hangar at the end of the airbase runway. A compound on the other side of the runway appears to have sufficient housing for several dozen personnel. The base is located about 50 kilometers from the Pakistan-Afghanistan border and is located in a way that allows US forces to launch drone attacks within minutes of an order. Aviation experts, who have been shown the image, have confirmed that the drones appear to be MQ1 Predator unmanned aerial vehicles -- the model used by the CIA to observe and strike militants on the Afghan border.
Predator drones have a range of more than 2,000 miles and can fly for 29 hours, enabling them to hit targets in Baluchistan, southern Afghanistan and in the northwestern Pakistani tribal areas. An investigation by The Times, meanwhile, has revealed that the CIA has been secretly using Shamsi to launch strikes on targets on the Pakistani side of the border with Afghanistan. A spokesman at the US Embassy in Islamabad has declined to comment on the images -- or the Wednesday-released results of the investigation. The Pakistani military had reportedly allowed the US to use Shamsi, Jacobabad, and two other bases -- Pasni and Dalbadin -- in its 2001 invasion of Afghanistan. The then military government, led by Pervez Musharraf, however, contended that the Americans had left the bases in 2006. Senior officials from both sides have since denied repeatedly that Washington uses Pakistani bases. US drone attacks in Pakistan and Afghanistan have caused hundreds of civilian casualties and have fuelled anti-American sentiments. The latest drone strike on Monday killed 32 people in the tribal agency of Kurram. Islamabad has repeatedly called on the US to halt drone attacks on Pakistani tribal areas bordering Afghanistan.
